Meet Jay Moran, Democratic Candidate For the Manchester Board of Directors

Full name:  Jay Moran

Work: Director of Athletics, University of Bridgeport

Why do you want to be on the Manchester Board of Directors? I ran successfully for office for the Board of Education in 2007 to give back to this great community who reached out to my entire family when my daughter was ill and eventually passed away. That reason keeps me grounded today as I run for my third term on the Board of Directors, and reminds me that as an elected official I am here to serve our citizens and be their voice.
   
What experience do you bring to the table? I bring six years of public service to the board. Two years on the Board of Education and four years on the Board of Directors. I also bring leadership experience having chaired several committees on the Board of Education and most recently the last two years as Deputy Mayor. I take great pride in leading in a civil and cooperative manner so that all board members and citizens get the respect they deserve.

What do you think the town's most pressing issue is? The most pressing issue facing Manchester is being able to provide vital services for our children, families, and seniors without  putting the burden of the cost of these services on the taxpayers. We must make sure we keep our community safe, infrastructure sound, and our recreation programs strong. We must make sure every child gets a quality education. We will give everyone a voice in the future of our schools. And as our community lives longer we must allocate resources for our seniors.
  
What do you love most about Manchester? What I love most about Manchester is the people. It is the people of Manchester who make it a great place to raise a family, worship, and a great school system to educate our children. We are diverse, we are the "city of village charm," we are strong together!

What do you like to do for fun? I enjoy jogging, not running, and a good pick-up game of basketball. As a college athletic director and an elected official, I live a very busy life, however it is the down time, especially vacations,  with my wife Patty and my daughters Kristen and  Elizabeth, and my son Jamie is where I find the most fun. Nothing better than food, family, friends and fun!
