I use an abbreviation of my name for posting for personal privacy and security reasons I think all online posters should consider. It is in no way an attempt to hide behind a false name or distance myself from my comments. Since politics intrudes on nearly every Patch discussion, it's worth stating that I've been a nonpartisan voter since my first poll visit. I consider most political labels meaningless and have little patience with those who forcibly assign them to others. I have less patience with those who think a self-chosen label represents a complete statement of political position and requires no further explanation. I greatly prefer reading posts that appear to come from the individual's own mind and show signs of having been thought about, rather than postings where a few short slogans or code words are supposed to convey meaning. I am a champion of keeping discussions close to the original topic and the comments relevant to that topic. This puts me at deep odds with those who think every topic and every open comment box is a place to dump a generic rant about their pet issue. Especially when it's the same rant, word for word, day after day. Contribute something original and relevant when you post... if that's asking too much, maybe you need another hobby.
