Bob, I'd contact the town and tell them that you'd be willing to foot the bill for another one inRead More front of Mulberry Street. There seems to be a lot of interest in people about this, so maybe even raising it as a general plan for the Main Street/downtown area might even have some legs. Maybe talk to some of the Directors about it?
bob s May 15, 2013 at 02:36 pm
I would be happy to pay to have one put in front of Mulberry Street...is that possible? This is aRead More fabulous idea we need more of these.

The Glastonbury PA listing kills me. It lists the usual PA tasks -- filing, answer calls, gettingRead More the mail, doing basic shopping, etc. -- and then springs the "oh, and you'll also need to be my maid" deal on you. Does this person want a PA or a 1950s housewife?

If you are biking to work on Friday, stop in at Fuss & O'Neill (146 Hartford Road, Manchester)Read More for a rest and a snack! http://www.bikewalkct.org/event-locations.html

The store is the Grand Union at the Parkade. Liggett's drug store and a package store were nextRead More door. And further down in the picture was the Youth Center (clothing store) and WT Grants next to that.
Kathy Williams May 14, 2013 at 11:53 am
That photo was before the addition on the end where Cardio Express is now. Grand Union had expandedRead More to become Grand Way with the addition being more like a discount store for items other than groceries. It was then Treasure City. then Channel Home Improvement before Home Goods took over the space.

This says Middletown postal carriers - I assume it's Manchester too? Is this state wide so I canRead More spread the word to my friends. I'll check out the link.

Graffiti runs rampant all over town, from the parks to the bus shelters to the traffic signalRead More control boxes. Ignoring it encourages more of the same, anti-social behavior. Just as litter begets litter, graffiti begets graffiti. Both should be addressed every single day. You really haven't "seen" Manchester until you sit in a bus shelter that is covered with graffiti and littered with "little nip" bottles and condoms. We, as a town, should be ashamed, not only about the graffiti and litter, but about the administration's total lack of concern and action. Maybe we should all start taking pictures and sending them to "Your Stories" at WFSB.

yes they need to do a better job covering it up. Last year while walking through center springsRead More park with my girlfriend there was a very large(10ft) swastika on the pavilion floor. I notified the town, and had returned two weeks later and no action had been taken. I haven't been back since. Manchester really needs some sort of code enforcement person that just focuses on graffiti and blight. There are so many properties that are in violation of existing laws, that if enforced would drastically improve neighborhoods appeal and property values.

I'm a bit confused about the budget cuts affecting the garden. how much could this be saving? IRead More have seen the area at mcc at it isn't large. what do they supply? seeds, water and fertilizer? I imagine since the garden has been in operation there are already tools and what not. So they are maybe saving $100.00?
Jerry O'Connor May 2, 2013 at 02:40 pm
It seems odd that the "Community Garden" won't be open to the Community this year. ButRead More wait, that's right, all the State tax money is going to UConn. Maybe they'll open a community garden in Storrs or Hartford that Manchester-area residents can use.

Is there anything more frustrating about a website "under construction" that featuresRead More dates from 2012? It is May after all.

Hi Jim, you are right. This is a photo from a previous Cruisin' on Main event. I didn't think peopleRead More would misinterpret it, but I see your point.
Jim Brochu May 2, 2013 at 09:22 am
It should be noted that the picture accompanying this article is from a previous year'sRead More "Cruisin' On Main Street" which is scheduled to be held on the 1st Sunday in August. It's easy to interpret from this photo that Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic. I don't believe that this is the case. Perhaps some clarification is in order here. It is, however, a wonderful photo. . .

There seem to have been a resurgence of "Moonshine" producers lately. I think it is great,Read More hopefully it will help raise awareness so we can get home distilling legalized! I have been wanting to get into distilling for a while now, drooling over the distilling equipment at http://MoonshineDistiller.com, but the legality issue is what has kept me out so far.

Possibly taken from the bell tower of South Methodist Church aiming toward the southeast. A bit ofRead More the old store is visible at the lower right. At the right are the ball fields we used as students at Barnard Junior High (now Bennet). I'd say taken in the early 50's.
