PHOTO GALLERY: A Walk Through the Cheney Historic District

Cheney Hall, Cheney Silk Mills, the Loom exhibit, and The Old Manchester Museum were some of the highlights.

Lead by Chris Paulin of Manchester Community College's Institute of Local History, and Susan Barlow of the Manchester Historical Society, about two dozen participants walked around the Cheney Historic District on Saturday.

A discussion of the changing technology of weaving, and the 1902 strike that ensued because of the need for fewer weavers made for a fascinating afternoon. A look at looms that are on display at the Manchester Historical Society and the Old Manchester Museum were highlights of the Tour. The tour was co-sponsored by the Manchester Historic Society, MCC's Institute of Local History, and The Cheney Brothers Landmark Historic District Commission.
