More Than 500 Manchester Area Girl Scouts Celebrate Start of 2012 Cookie Program

Girl Scouts of Connecticut hosted a successful Cookie Rally at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills in Manchester on Saturday, January 7. About 550 Girl Scouts attended and participated in plenty of fun, educational activities about the Cookie Program.

About 560 Girl Scouts came together at on Saturday, Jan. 7, to celebrate the start of the 2012 Girl Scout Cookie Program. Tables scattered throughout the mall featured fun activities that girls of all levels could complete in order to earn a Cookie Rally patch. The five skills that girls learn through the Cookie Program are goal setting, money management, people skills, business ethics, and decision making. Older Girl Scouts acted as volunteers, helping younger Girl Scouts with their rally activities.

Girls were setting goals already on Saturday, with one Girl Scout Daisy aspiring to sell 20 boxes in her first time selling cookies. A pair of Girl Scout Ambassadors plan to use their cookie proceeds to fund a trip to Washington, D.C., for the Girl Scout Rock the Mall Sing-A-Long. Girls were also able to make cards for the Cookies for Heroes Program, a Gift of Caring Service Project that allows the public to purchase boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to be sent to service men and women around the world and at home. Last year, over 120,000 boxes were sent to our service women and men, and this year the goal is even higher!

The Girl Scout Cookie Season is for a limited time only. Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Lemon Chalet, Dulce De Leche, and Thank U Berry Munch. A new flavor is being introduced this year called Savannah Smiles, bite-sized lemon-wedge cookies dusted in powdered sugar and bursting with zesty lemon flavor. These cookies celebrate the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts, and are a part of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts.
