UConn Football Players Shoot Hoops at Washington Elementary School

A pair of University of Connecticut football players stopped by Washington Elementary School in town Friday to talk to the school children about the importance of education, and wound up playing a pickup game of basketball - with a football.

Chandler Whitmer, UConn's starting quarterback, and Yawin Smallwood, the school's starting middle linebacker, appeared as part of a program by the Heisman Trophy Trust to present a reading grant to the elementary school.

While they were there, Whitmer and Smallwood engaged in a contest to see who could be the first to throw a football through a basketball hoop in the school's gym.

After more than a half dozen tries, the linebacker beat the quarterback.
