The Cheney Tech Beavers took 17th place with 49 points at the 2011 Class M Wrestling tournament held at Windham High School over the weekend. This year’s Class M field had 27 teams, with Bacon Academy coming out on top with 229 points.
Forest Dolby came into the tournament as the highest seeded Beaver wrestler, holding the top seed in the 135 pound division. He pinned the first two opponents he faced in just four and a half minutes combined. His semi-final match against Thomas Millaras of Waterford resulted in a 4-2 decision for Dolby. He faced the number two seed, Mike Delvalle of Brookfield in the finals. Dolby scored a convincing 7-0 win to secure the championship.
Philip Serventez came into the tournament as the number ten seed in the 140 pound division. He had a decisive 13-4 victory over Ryan Hewitt of Montville which set up his quarter final match up with number two seed Jack McKeever of Brookfield. Unlike Dolby’s convincing win over one of Brookfield’s top wrestlers, McKeever took the match with a 6-0 decision.

Sean Harvey competed in the 189 pound division as the number eight seed. He made it to the quarterfinal round with an 11-0 decision over Ariel Leon of Stratford. His bracket ran him right into top seed, and eventual champion, Brandon Koch of Windham. Koch made quick work of Harvey with a pin at 1:55 into their match.
Matthew Cadiz, Jose Luis Salermon, Nick Beaver, Marcus Griffin, and Jake Beck also competed for the Beavers in the tournament.
