School Board to Discuss Fate of Nathan Hale School Tonight

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Room 293 of the freshmen wing of Manchester High School.

It was scheduled as one of a series of workshops on Interim Superintendent Richard Kisiel's for the 2012-13 school year, but concerns about the viability of Nathan Hale Elementary School are poised to dominate tonight's special meeting of the Board of Education.

Nathan Hale, the Spruce Street elementary school built in 1921, has been identified as in need of serious repairs to both the heat piping and boiler systems, but the Manchester Board of Education says the school system doesn't have the money at the present to conduct those repairs.

School board members have said they favor until a plan and financing for the repairs can be developed, but that they are hoping that the public shows up at tonight's meeting to express their concerns. The school board says they will provide ample time to members of the public tonight who wish to speak about the issue.
