Ribbon Cutting for New Glastonbury Educational Therapy Business

The Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Learning Power LLC as they opened new offices in Glastonbury.

An Avon-based educational therapy and tutoring service celebrated brand new opening offices in Glastonbury with a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony with the Thursday.

Learning Power LLC, which specializes in tutoring, test preparation and educational therapy, has served the needs of students and parents in the state since its inception in 1984, including students in Glastonbury, Executive Director Linda E. Nelson said. But the offices of the Avon-based company were a long drive from Glastonbury’s schools.

“We’re glad to be able to have an office here,” Managing Director James Bowe said. “It makes it more convenient for our clients in the communities here.”

The new offices, located in an office complex at 2389 Main St., will provide a local company hub for those parents interested in outside help for their students, Bowe said.

Nelson founded the company in 1984 as a tutorial registry to serve students who needed additional instruction in school for reading, writing, math, and test preparation. Students work one-on-one with dedicated tutors, and Nelson and Bowe themselves are educational therapists with extensive histories in the education field.

Much of their business comes from word-of-mouth referrals, Nelson said, although psychologists and therapists will refer students with behavioral needs. Two area psychologists, who had referred local clients, encouraged the company to open their Glastonbury offices.

“We were encouraged to come over here,” Nelson said. “It really is a service that’s needed.”

Learning Power is also currently looking for space in town that they could lease to use as a classroom for larger classroom style sessions, including an afterschool homework club they hope to begin soon, Nelson said.
