Pool at Manchester High Will Remain Closed to Public at Least Through Saturday

The pool has been closed since the death of Manchester High School student Malvrick Donkor Nov. 21, 2012.

The pool at Manchester High School will be closed to public swimming through at least Saturday, Dec. 15, with an announcement on its longterm status expected to come Friday, Dec. 14. 

The pool has been closed to all activities, including recreational swimming by the public, since 14-year old Malvrick Donkor drowned as part of a swimming class at the high school on Nov. 21, 2012. The Hartford Courant reported that the Connecticut Department of Public Health inspected the pool after Donkor's death and found no violations, but the pool has not been reopened. 

Manchester Matters, a townwide email newsletter, reported Monday that the pool will be remain closed to the public at least through Saturday, with an update on its status expected Friday.

Swimming classes at Manchester High have been suspended since Donkor's death, and Manchester Police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
