Manchester School Board Member Applying for Job With District

Board member Sarah Walton is seeking a job at Illing Middle School, and ethics rules do not prohibit her from applying.

A member of the Manchester Board of Education is seeking a job with the school system.

And while ethics do not prohibit her application at least one elected official is questioning the fact that sitting members of the education board can apply for positions with the district.

The Hartford Courant reported that Sarah Walton, a Democrat, is applying for a position as a student support coordinator at Arthur H. Illing Middle School, and if hired she said she would resign immediately from the board.

The Courant reported that Walton checked with the district on the ethics of her seeking the job, and the district determined it was not against the rules for a sitting board member to apply.

But one board member, Republican Michael Crockett, told the Courant that while he had no hard feelings against Walton for her decision he felt that the fact the sitting board members could apply for open jobs was a loophole that needed to be addressed.
