I did not appreciate my house phone ringing at 5:30am, and then my cell phone ringing at 5:32am to tell me that. Using the voice system should be for emergencies only. Letting me know that there is a snow day is NOT an emergency.

Wow, that is REALLY pathetic. Using that system of a snow day?! On a side note and a funnier note - I remember listening so intently to the radio when they'd announce the school closings. I knew if East Hartford, Bolton, or Glastonbury were closed - chances were we'd be saved as well. Definitely not an emergency phone message-worthy event however.

In Buffalo, 8" is just that - a dusting, just like when I lived in Syracuse. In those places nothing got shut down before 12" were on the ground. When I was growing up in Albany, NY, we used city buses for school transportation. As long as they were running, and we could walk the 1/4 mile to the bus stop from our home, we went to school.
