Manchester High a Finalist in Teen Driving Safety Video Contest

Travelers and the Connecticut DMV have teamed up to donate $15,000 in prizes to five local schools in the 2012 DMV teen safe driving video contest - $5,000 for first place; $4,000 for second place; $3,000 for third place; $2,000 for fourth place; and $1,0

A video on teen driving safety produced by a group of students at Manchester High School is one of 10 finalist in the Connecticut DMV's 2012 Teen Safe Driving Video contest.

If selected as the overall winner, Manchester High would receive $5,000; $4,000 goes to the second place school; $3,000 to third place; $2,000 for fourth place; and $1,000 for fifth place for a total of $15,000 in prize money to area schools. Travelers serves as the contest's corporate sponsor.

The contest is open to high-school age teenagers statewide and requires students create a public service video announcement focused on teens talking to teens about safe driving. This year's competition, in its fourth year, drew more than 100 entries. The five winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in April.

“Getting information and support to teen drivers is critical to keeping them safe behind the wheel,” Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said in a statement. “This contest helps us connect with our youngest drivers and ensure they understand their responsibility to minimize risks and develop good driving habits. I commend all the students for their work —these young people represent a strong future for Connecticut.”

To go along with the contest, Travelers and the Connecticut DMV are sponsoring a challenge to see which school can make their video the most viewed among the Top 10 on the DMV YouTube site. The schools in the competition (alphabetically) are:
