Manchester CMT and CAPT Scores Released

Most public school students in Manchester fall below most the state average on both forms of the standardized tests.

In Manchester, the town still falls below the state averages in most Connecticut Mastery Tests and Connecticut Academic Performance Tests.

The scores, released Thursday, for Manchester public school students were mixed, with some grade levels seeing significant improvements, while others saw noticeable drops in individual testing areas. On average, most Manchester public school students are underperforming the state average in both proficiency and goal on the tests.

Board of Education Chairman Chris Pattacini said Friday afternoon that he had not yet reviewed the school system's results and could not comment on them.

In releasing the CMT and CAPT test scores for individual districts this year, the state Department of Education said that CMT scores — given to students in grades 3 through 8 — improved incrementally while CAPT performance — administered to 10th-graders and required for graduation — was mixed.

"While student performance increased in all content areas when compared to the CAPT baseline year of 2007, it decreased in some areas when compared to last year," the department said in a news release. "As compared to 2011, performance increased slightly in writing, remained relatively constant in science and reading, and decreased in mathematics."
