Geary Appointed Next Superintendent of Manchester Public Schools

Manchester High School Principal Matthew Geary was named the next Superintendent of Manchester Public Schools.

The Manchester Board of Education unanimously voted to enter into a contract agreement with Manchester High School Principal Matthew Geary to become the next Superintendent of Manchester Public Schools on Monday, Aug. 23, 2013. Geary then promptly signed the contract shortly after the vote.

"This was a long process that this board took very seriously. Mr. Geary was an excellent candidate. We have extremely high expectations, but I think we all feel that you will meet and exceed those," Neal Leon, a Democratic member of the school board, told Geary after the vote.

School board chairman Chris Pattacini hailed Geary as a "strong, decisive leader who focuses on students and learning."

Geary was hired as principal of Manchester High School in April of 2012. Prior to that, he served as principal at Watertown High School since 2007.

Geary will remain in his current position as principal of Manchester High School until the end of the school year, and will officially assume the position of superintendent on July 1, 2014. Interim Superintendent Richard Kisiel will remain in his position until that time as well.

Pattacini said Geary would receive an$185,000 annual salary under the contract, $5,000 paid annually by the school board to an annuity, a $5,000 moving reimbursement (Geary must move his family to Manchester as part of the residency clause of the superintendent contract), and a car allowance.
