Four Manchester High Students Receive Golf Scholarships

The awards will allow four Manchester High School students to play on the greens of the Manchester Country Club as much as they want this summer.

Four Manchester High School students were awarded scholarships to the Manchester Country Club recently that will allow each unlimited play on the club's greens through the summer.

Alex Sanchez and Branden Meek both received the second annual Manchester Country Club Scholarship.

When the family of the late William Carlin heard about the MCC scholarships last year, they decided to establish a similar scholarship in Carlin's name. Carlin, an avid golfer, died in October of 2012 at the age of 84.

His daughter Kathy Wirtz and his wife Margaret Carlin presented the award to Brittany Yingling and Brandon Barrett.

"He left some money behind, and I said, 'well, let's put it to good use," said Margaret Carlin. "And this was his passion."

Each scholarship is worth about $400. All four recipients are members of the Manchester High golf team.

Correction: An earlier version of this story had the wrong date for William Carlin's death.
