Rape, Aggression Defense Explored on Manchester Review
Defense Against Rape and Aggression Explored on Manchester Review Mionday at 9 PM Channel 15
According to crime statistics from 2010, the risk of rape, assault, robbery, larceny or motor vehicle theft is greater in Manchester than overall for the State, but in most cases much less than the national average. Although most assaults on women are committed by a person they are familiar with, 23% of female victims report they were assaulted by a stranger.
Given these risks women may want to think about learning some strategies to protect themselves. Help is available through the Manchester Police Department’s women only course called “Rape, Aggression Defense.” Manchester Police Officers Stacey Forish and Josh Traczynski, guests on Manchester Review in July, are instructors for the course. They explain how women can gain confidence and skills in dealing with aggression through the R.A.D. course. The comprehensive course covers awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, and concludes with hands-on defensive techniques. Classes meet once a week for four weeks.
According to Forish and Traczynski, the course has been very successful in building confidence in women and in preventing assaults.
The course is offered several times each year, depending on demand. Information on the course and how to register is explained on the show and can also be obtained by calling Officer Forish at 860-645-5568.
Manchester Review, hosted by Jack Peak, airs Monday nights from 9 PM to 9:30 PM on Cox PATV channel 15.
