East Catholic Names New Varsity Football Coach

Steven Calande named as the next Varsity Head Football Coach at East Catholic High School.

has appointed Steven Calande as its next head football coach. Coach Calande is a graduate of Temple University and will also be teaching Physical Education at East Catholic.

He has been coaching football since 1989 with head coaching experience at the Middle school, Junior high, and High school levels. Coach Calande is currently the head coach at Old Town High School, Old Town Maine.

According to Jason Hartling, Principal and Chief Administrator, “Coach Calande exemplifies our school-wide commitment to excellence in everything we do. He understands what it takes to develop high caliber student athletes and the importance of our values in everything we do. We have amazing students and families at East Catholic and Coach Calande is a perfect fit for our community.”

Tom Malin, Athletic Director at East Catholic and a member of the eight person search committee, states “we simply could not have selected a finer coach, a better teacher, a more honorable man for the position.”

Malin also stated that “Coach Calande will not only teach the fundamentals of the game of football but will also teach the values of participating in sports that our football players will take with them for the rest of their lives upon graduating from East Catholic High School.”

Coach Calande said about his appointment, "this is a tremendous opportunity to become part of the East Catholic High School family. I am honored to have an opportunity to add to a proud tradition of excellence in academics, citizenship, and athletics. God puts us where we are needed most and a series of events has made this opportunity real for me and my family; this is a homecoming for us.  I can't wait to get started."
