Cheney Tech to Receive More Than $600,000 in New Manufacturing Equipment From State Bond Commission

The State Bond Commission plans to award Cheney Tech $619,821 to purchase new manufacturing equipment.

When the State Bond Commission meets Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, it is expected to approve $619,821 for new manufacturing equipment at Howell Cheney Technical High School in Manchester.

State Sen. Steve Cassano, D-Manchester, and State Rep. Tim Timothy Larson, a Democrat who also represents a portion of Manchester in the sate legislature, announced the news Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, in a release.

“I’ve been working with Cheney Tech to expand their programs because local manufacturers are complaining that they don’t have qualified people to fill their job openings. This funding will help train people to fill those jobs,” Cassano said in a statement. “Business leaders want Connecticut to invest more money in our technical schools and colleges because businesses don’t have the funds to equip and train new hires. Some people may complain about state spending, but the businesses that hire these students aren’t complaining, and the students who earn a paycheck aren’t complaining either.”

Cassano said the money will be used to purchase "replacement lathes, milling machines, grinders and CNC (computer numerical control) machines" at the technical high school.
