Cheney Tech Students Up for Teen Safe Driving Video Awards Tonight

Video created by Cheney Tech students about safe teen driving could earn the school a top prize of $4,000.

A group of Howell Cheney Technical High School students - led by student director Antonio Collazo - will be honored Monday as the Department of Motor Vehicles and Travelers announces the winners of the "From the Driver's Seat to the Director's Chair" video contest.

The annual contest requires students to create a 25 second-video message about safe teen driving. This year’s theme: "Make the Right Choice".

Cheney Tech's video is one of the Top 10 ranking videos that be will shown at the award ceremony.  There were 164 entries submitted to the contest this year.

Top prizes are $4,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place and $2,000 for third place, which will go to the high schools of winning students and must be used for promoting teen safe-driving awareness.

The event will be held at the Travelers Claim U Training Facility, 99 Lamberton Road, Windsor, CT. The dinner begins at 5:15 p.m. and the ceremony follows at 6:15 p.m.
