Manchester Police Department Unveils New Website

The new site, launched April 5, offers a number of new interactive features.

It may have flown under most people's radars in town, but the Manchester Police Department recently unveiled a revamped website designed to make many of it's services more easily accessible to the public, as well as to serve as a promotional and recruitment tool for the department.

The revamped website was launched April 5, according to Police Chief Marc Montminy, and features a Flash-propelled array of scrolling photos (including many from the department's past), links to all the department's forms and registration papers, a Facebook feed, a new live scanner, a weather bar, and an array of other new functions.

"We're kind of proud of it," Montminy said. "Basically we felt that our old webpage was lacking graphic intensity and really what you could get out of it. We wanted to make it not only a billboard for all the services the department offers, but also make it an attractive recruitment page."

Montminy said that two members of the department, Sergeant Michael Ilewicz and Police Service Aid Joshua Traczynski, constructed the site and that most of the work was done during working hours or on a volunteer basis, saving the department from having to hire costly web designers to construct and manage the new page.

"There was very little or no overtime involved, and if you take a look it's clear that they put in a lot of time and effort," Montminy said.

General Manager Scott Shanley told Patch Wednesday that, although he hadn't fully explored all the parameters of the department's new website yet, he was pleased that the upgrades were able to be made by town employees.

"It's an indication of the continually growing technical capacity of our workforce," Shanley said.

Montminy said that the new website was "just the beginning," and that the department had a number of upgrades planned for the future, most of which will be announced on the new website or through the department's Facebook page in the coming weeks and months.

"This is just the beginning, we expect it's just going to get better and better," Montminy said. "I can see it in the future being able to get case reports and accidents reports through the webpage by simply entering the case number."
