Gullotta to Primary for 13th District House Seat

The Glastonbury resident announced that he intends to mount a primary challenge against Joseph Diminico for the Democratic nomination for the 13th District House Seat.

, a Glastonbury resident, announced Wednesday that he plans to mount a primary challenge against Manchester resident to claim the Democratic nomination for the 13th District House Seat. 

The seat is currently held by long-time State Representative Jack Thompson, who has announced that he . Democratic voters from the district, , held a nominating convention on Tuesday, but the vote was split entirely along party lines, with Diminico receiving all eight votes from the Manchester representatives, and Gullotta receiving all six votes from the Glastonbury representatives. The six votes were enough to secure Gullotta a spot in a primary, to be held Tuesday, Aug. 14. 

"There were no surprises at the 13th District House Seat convention," Gullotta said in an email.

Pat Low, a former chairperson of the Glastonbury Democratic Town Committee and chair of Gullotta’s election campaign, said Gullotta's campaign is seeking the primary because it believes he is the best candidate to retain the seat in a general election.

”With the redistricting of the 13th to include Glastonbury, we need a respected proven vote getter who can appeal not only to the base of the Democratic party but to unaffiliated voters and moderate Republicans living in Glastonbury and Manchester, or we could very well lose this seat in November," Low said.
