Public discussion on Spring Street Bridge

Public Meeting to discuss the Spring Street Bridge at Case Mountain Falls.

The public is invited to a discussion on the possible solutions to the problem conditions of the Spring Street Bridge at the Case Mountain Falls. The discussion will be held on May 26, 2011, at 7:00 PM in the Lincoln Center Hearing Room at 494 Main Street. The Town has learned that the existing Spring Street Bridge is deteriorating and requires both structural repairs and safety upgrades. Correcting these deficiencies will require a substantial financial investment.

The Spring Street Bridge and its surroundings are included in the Case Brothers National Historic District and comprise a Town landmark, thus any solution must respect these special characteristics. The State of CT is prepared to award the Town $700,000 in grant funds towards the realignment of Spring Street and the construction of a new bridge. This would preserve the existing bridge for pedestrian and bicycle access. An alternative is to perform repairs to the existing bridge that address the immediate structural and safety deficiencies and maintain its current operations. However, this option must be funded entirely with Town resources.

At the May 26, 2011 discussion, Town staff and consultants will describe the current conditions of the bridge and the issues we believe need to be addressed.  We hope you can join us to share your concerns and ideas on how to best address the Spring Street Bridge.  Your participation will help inform the Board of Directors as they make their decision on the best alternative to pursue and whether to accept the State funds. If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 860-647-3067.
