Any motorist that has tried to traverse Broad Street over the past few months knows that the road has been…well, somewhat less than ideal to drive down.
That's because the road is in the middle of a $3 million reconstruction project that started in August, and is not slated to finish until late spring/early summer of 2013. But much of the paving work on the roadway has been completed, and the project is preparing to "wrap up" for the winter, according to Manchester General Manager Scott Shanley.
Shanley told Patch Wednesday that the majority of the paving work on the project has been completed, and that the project is preparing to shut down for the winter. But Shanley said that repairs on a culver that runs under Edgerton Street are scheduled to take place throughout the winter, and will last about eight weeks.
"It's a complex job due to all the utilities that run over the culvert," Shanley said, noting that the construction will continue to "restrict traffic" during the winter months.
Shanley said that the project is still on schedule to be fully completed by late spring/early summer of 2013.

The $3 million Broad Street Reconstruction projec, mostly financed through state funds, will reconstruct the section of Broad Street between West Middle Turnpike and Center Street, establishing uniform traffic lane widths, curb cuts for all properties, and sidewalks on both sides of the road.
The town is in the process of attempting to revitalize and redevelop that part of town, once part of Manchester’s primary retail area, but which has seen a downturn and economic stagnation in recent years.
