Board of Directors to Review Education Budget Thursday

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Center Hearing Room at 494 Main St.

The Manchester Board of Directors will review the Board of Education's requested budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year during a budget workshop Thursday evening.

In his proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year, General Manager Scott Shanley recommended a $169,388,904, or a 2.4 percent increase, over the current budget. However, Shanley's budget only increases the education budget by 3.1 percent, instead of the 5.5 percent the school board was seeking.

In order to bridge that gap, should Shanley's budget be approved, Interim Superintendent Richard Kisiel has proposed a series of cuts to the education budget that have proven unpopular with residents.
