Town: 'No Resolution' On Demolition, Remediation of Fire Damaged Main Street Building

Town officials are working with insurance company representatives to develop a salvage/demolition plan for the fire-damaged 801 Main St. building.

Town officials said Tuesday morning they are still working with insurance company representatives of the property owner of the fire damaged 801 Main St. building to finalize a "salvage, demolition, site remediation and debris removal" plan for the property.

The fire was first reported late Saturday evening in the building that houses the Great Harvest Bread Co., 809 Main St., and Connecticut Valley Coin, 805 Main St.

Fire Chief Robert Bycholski said buildings on the block have the following status of occupancy:

  • DW Design, 785 Main Street: Open
  • AFSCME 9-9-1, 789 Main Street: Open
  • Rooming Houses, 791 Main Street: Uninhabitable
  • Coventry Farms, 793 Main Street: Closed
  • Rooming Houses, 801 Main Street: Burned out
  • Connecticut Valley Coin, 805 Main Street: Burned Out
  • Great Harvest Bread Co., 809 Main Street: Burned Out
  • Manchester Mall, 811 Main Street: Closed
  • Officer/Storage, 821 Main Street: Open
  • Brass Key Restaurant, 829 Main Street: Open
Bycholski said that 791 Main St., an 18-unit rooming house, is closed and uninhabitable at the moment due to rear exiting concerns with fencing and debris at the site, but will be re-opened once those issues can be address. He said the Manchester Mall will remain closed pending an engineering report.
