UPDATED: Name of Manchester High Drowning Victim Released

A 14-year old freshman male drowned in the Manchester High School pool Wednesday morning.

Updated, 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 21 

The 14-year old freshmen male student who died after being found unresponsive in the Manchester High School pool Wednesday morning has been identified as Malvrick Donkor, according to Manchester High School Principal Matthew Geary. 

In a letter posted to the high school's Redline website, Geary said that Donkor "passed away after an emergency that occurred in the pool area at the school."

"I would ask that you join me in praying for this student and his family during this very difficult time for our school community," Geary wrote. 

School staff will be available at the high school from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for counseling and assistance. A vigil for Donkor is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Nov. 26, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with more information coming over the next several days, Geary said.

The 14-year old unidentified male student who was pulled from the Manchester High School pool Wednesday morning has died, according to a statement released by Manchester Public Schools. 

The student's name has not been released. 

The statement is printed below in its entirety: 

"It is with great sorrow that we are announcing that this morning, a 14 year old male student at Manchester High School was found in the swimming pool unresponsive and later pronounced dead at Manchester Memorial Hospital. The school community is being informed through the Superintendent’s office about counseling services and support available to them.  An investigation into the tragedy is underway and no further information including the student’s identity is being released at this time."

A 14-year old male student was pulled from the swimming pool at Manchester High School Wednesday morning and rushed to Manchester Memorial Hospital, according to police, where his conditioned remained unknown. 

According to Manchester Police Cpt. Christopher Davis the unidentified student, a freshman, was taking part in a swimming class at the high school at approximately 10:20 a.m. when another student noticed the victim under water and unresponsive. 

The student was pulled from the pool and resuscitation efforts were performed. The student was then transported by ambulance to Manchester Memorial Hospital, where his condition remained unknown as of approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday.
