Bizarre Shooting Incident Involving South Windsor Cop, Manchester Man

According to police, a Buckland Street man being asked about vandalism pulled a rifle on a South Windsor officer, and she drew her weapon and fired at him.

A Buckland Street man is in custody Friday night after he allegedly pulled a rifle on a South Windsor police officer investigating a vandalism complaint.

According to a release from the Manchester Police Department, David Hamilton, 67, of 39 Buckland St., Apt. 2224, visited his doctor's office at about 3 p.m. because he felt he should be paying less for some of his medications and was upset that the doctor was not in.

Police said Hamilton, who knew where the doctor lived, drove to the doctor's house in South Windsor and allegedly ran over his mailbox and garbage cans with his car before fleeing the scene and returning to his apartment in Manchester.

At about 5:15 p.m., a South Windor officer was dispatched to Hamilton's apartment to follow up on the complaint, and she asked the suspect for identification. Hamilton, the release said, told the officer his ID was in his bedroom and went to retrieve it, only to return with a 30/30 rifle that he pointed at her.

Police said the officer felt threatened, drew her service weapon and fired at least one round at Hamilton, but there were no injuries. Hamilton's 49-year-old son then helped wrestle his father to the ground until the officer could handcuff him. The officer was not injured.
