Infant Killed in Car Accident, Another Critically Injured

Manchester Police say the cause of the accident on Spencer Street Thursday afternoon remains under investigation.

Update, 10:30 p.m., Sept. 5, 2013

A two-car accident on Spencer Street Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a 5-month-old, multiple news outlets are reporting. Another infant in the vehicle, an 11-month-old, is listed in critical condition, according to WFSB.

The female driver in the car with the infants was also transported to the hospital, Ambulance Service of Manchester said, but her condition was not immediately known. Police have not released the identities of any of the victims.

Meanwhile, the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Update, 7:30 p.m., Sept. 5, 2013 

The Hartford Courant is reporting that one of the small children injured in today's accident on Spencer Street near the intersection to Hillstown Road has died. The other child is listed in critical condition. 

Both children were under a year old.

The "serious motor vehicle accident" reported on Spencer Street near the intersection of Hillstown Road earlier this afternoon resulted in at least three injuries, according to the Ambulance Service of Manchester. 

Two of the victims were children under the age of three, the Ambulance Service of Manchester said, and all three victims were transported to Hartford Hospital by the company.

The Ambulance Service of Manchester reported to the scene of a "serious motor vehicle accident" on Spencer Street and transported two unidentified victims to Hartford Hospital Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, according to the Ambulance Service of Manchester. 

The accident occurred Thursday afternoon around approximately 1:20 p.m., according to information provided by the Ambulance Service of Manchester, and witnesses to the scene reported portions of Spencer Street near the intersection to Hillstown Road were closed to traffic as late as 3 p.m. Manchester Community College closed the main entrance to its campus  on Hillstown Road, which was near the scene of the accident, from 1:30 p.m. to about 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon due to the accident.
