Police: Wrecker Driver Facing DUI After Wrecking Truck With a Child in the Vehicle En Route to an Accident Scene

The Ellington Man crashed the truck in Vernon near the South Windsor line, police said.

An Ellington man driving a wrecker to an accident scene in Vernon on Sunday night allegedly went through a stop sign, crashed the truck with a child in the cab and is facing a drunken driving charge, police said.

A police call log indicates there was a crash at 690 Dart Hill Rd. at the time. It is a main route into South Windsor from Vernon Center.

At 9:26 p.m. on Sunday, police requested a towing service for an accident, according to an arrest report. Raymond Raiche, 30, of 1 Overhill Dr., Ellington, was driving a flatbed to the scene and allegedly ran a stop sign and wrecked the wrecker, according to the report.

He had his step-son in the vehicle at the time, who is a minor, police said.

Police said Raiche was arrested for driving under the influence after "a brief on-scene investigation."

In addition to the DUI charge, Raiche was charged with risk of injury to a child and a stop sign violation, according to an arrest report.

He was released on a $1,500 bond and is due in court on Dec. 10, police said.
