Updated: Police Say Hostage Suspect Dead, Killed by Sniper (Video)

Manchester officer shot during incident, listed in fair condition at Hartford Hospital.

Update: 9:20 p.m.

At about 6 p.m. police came knocking at Susan McCauley's door on Westwood Street and "physically removed" her from her house.

McCauley said that she had often heard her neighbors, the residents of 13 Courtland St., fighting, but that she did not know them or their children.

Police still had the neighborhood blocked as it remains an active crime scene.

On the Fermi Football Facebook page a writer says that Bill Beeler, the officer shot during the incident who is also the Fermi High coach, was "shot in the shoulder, has been treated, and is going to be fine. He will appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers!"

Update:. 8:30 p.m. 

Lt. Christopher Davis of the Manchester Police Department said police shot and killed the hostage suspect after he let his family go. 

Davis declined to release the name, but said the suspect lived at 13 Courtand St. 

Davis said the suspect shot and wounded a police officer in the shoulder, but that the injuries were non-life threatening and that the officer was taken to Hartford Hospital. The officer has been identified as Bill Beeler.

Beeler was taken to Hartford Hospital where he is listed in fair condition. Beeler is the head coach of the Fermi High School football team in Enfield.

Update, 7:40 p.m. 

Police reported that the suspect in a Courtland Street hostage situation was shot and had been "neutralized" after letting the hostages — his wife and 10- and 13-year-old sons — leave the home Thursday evening. 

A neighbor, Elizabeth Rodriguez, said that the suspect had lived in the Courtland Street home for "about a year, a year and a half" and that there had never been a problem before. Rodriguez said she believed the suspect's first name was Ray, but that she did not know his last name.

Police are reporting shots fired and an active hostage situation on or in the vicinity of Courtland Street. 

The suspect might have taken three hostages. Police are establishing a perimeter around the area of Courtland Street. 

A Manchester police officer, Bill Beeler, was shot. Beeler was taken to Hartford Hospital where he is listed in fair condition. Beeler is the head coach of the Fermi High School football team in Enfield.
