Pedestrian Pushing Shopping Cart Struck, Killed
Manchester Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led up to the fatal one-car collision Thursday evening on Oakland Street.
Police are continuing their investigation into what led to a pedestrian being struck and killed while pushing a shopping cart along a Manchester roadway Thursday evening.
According to Manchester Police, at 6:40 p.m., the department responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision involving one car and a pedestrian on Oakland Street just north of Sheldon Road.
The department's preliminary investigation determined that a Subaru traveling southbound on Oakland Street collided with a 53-year-old man who was pushing a shopping carriage southbound on the right shoulder.
The pedestrian was transported to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries and later died, police said. The man's name is not being released at this time due to family notification.
The driver of the car, who was located at the scene, was not injured and released.
Manchester Police report that it does not appear that speed and/or driver impairment were factors in the fatal crash.
Members of the Manchester Police Traffic Unit, along with the Metro Traffic Reconstruction Team, responded to the scene to investigate.
The incident remains under investigation. And police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Officer Jason Moss at 860-645-5560.
