Manchester Woman Seriously Injured in Avon Crash Monday

Jessica Farren, 26, of Manchester crashed her car into a telephone pole in front of the Avon Police Department late Monday night and was airlifted by Life Star to the hospital, police said.

Avon police have identified Jessica Farren, 26, of Manchester, as the woman who was seriously injured late Monday night when her car collided with a utility pole.

As of Wednesday morning, police said she was in stable condition at an area hospital.

The crash happened at 10:55 p.m. Monday in front of the Avon Police Department on Route 44, according to Lt. Kelly Walsh, spokesperson for the department. A utility pole snapped upon impact.

The Avon Volunteer Fire Department extricated Farren from her car, Walsh said, and then Life Star airlifted her to an area hospital.

As of 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, police reported that Farren was in life-threatening, but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.

Connecticut Light & Power cut the power Monday night so that SNET workers could replace the damaged telephone pole when they arrived at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Residences, Town Hall and the police department lost power during that time and the traffic light at the Route 44 Darling Drive intersection was affected that morning as people drove to the fire house to vote in District 2.

Around 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning, as votes were being counted at Town Hall, the power was cut to the building and immediate area briefly so that SNET could do some more work on the telephone lines. Votes were counted by flashlight and emergency lights until the power came back on.

Police have not released details on the cause of the accident at this time.
