She was the office manager at a physicians office, detectives said.

UPDATED: May 16, 3:16 p.m.

A Manchester woman has been charged with embezzling more than $68,000 from a Vernon physicians office owned by Eastern Connecticut Health Network, Vernon Police Department detectives said on Tuesday.

In a news release distributed just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, detectives said  that a warrant had been issued for the arrest of Pamela Burland, 51, of 27 Madison St. in Manchester, for first-degree larceny.

She is accused of embezzling more than $68,000.00 from ECHN between December 2009 and September 2011, the news release indicates. Burland was the office manager at the practice during the time period when the alleged crimes occurred, detectives said.

Burland surrendered at Vernon police headquarters on Tuesday, was formally charged and and was released on a $25,000 non-surety bond, detectives said.

She is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on May 29, detectives said.

Detectives said they are not releasing the name or address of the practice, citing patient privacy.

An ECHN spokesman said on Wednesday that the company policy is not to discuss criminal matters involving ECHN or its affiliates.

The warrant had not been delivered to the Rockville Superior Court Clerk's office early Wednesday afternoon.

Later in the afternoon, it was still not delivered. A clern said because of rthe nature of rthe crime, the warrant could end up being sealed.

The point of the story is to report that this woman has allegedly imbezzled from her employer and nothing more. Just like accidents and domestic violence, the victim is rarely identified. I still see no reasonable right or reason for the public to know on whom this crime was perpetrated.

I find it hard to believe that one woman managed to pocket that kind of money. it's most likely a situation where she didn't file the super bills and now it's too late for ECHN to file them. I know with ECHN the doctors office is not responsible for the insurance but a regional supervisor or something of the like is. It's also, to be honest, no one's business who the doctor is. If it affect's you or your insurance, i'm sure you'd know.

ECHN hires all or most of the doctors office personal.

Yes, I should not be typing at 12:44 in the morning! Much to late to think!
