Manchester Teen Seriously Injured After Hitting Tree

Safwaan Dalal, 18, of Manchester was reportedly in critical condition following a car crash at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.

An 18-year-old Manchester teenager was in critical condition at Hartford Hospital after hitting a tree at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Manchester police said.

Safwaan Dalal, of Manchester, was driving a 2007 Honda Civic northbound at a high rate of speed when the car left the road near 255 Vernon St., and hit a curb, then a large tree, according to the Hartford Courant, which cited Manchester Police. NBC Connecticut says the car was eastbound.

The accident is under investigation, but police said it appeared speed was a factor, according to WNTH-TV.

The NBC Connecticut website, citing the Fire Department, said Dalal was unconscious, unresponsive at the scene and had to be extricated from the car. He was first taken to Manchester Hospital, then airlifted by helicopter to Hartford Hospital, according to NBC.
