Manchester Resident, a 20 Year Police Veteran, Joins the Force in Rocky Hill

Manchester resident is the newest Rocky Hill police officer.

Tom Carpenter, a Manchester resident who recently retired from the Glastonbury Police Department, was added to the Rocky Hill Police Department in a formal ceremony earlier this week.

After spending 20 years with the Glastonbury Police Department, Carpenter retired from the force to pursue a career in the private sector. But after 10 months, Carpenter wanted to return to a career in law enforcement. However, he could not return to the Glastonbury Police Department because he was already receiving a pension there.

Chief Michael Custer said it is "a rare pickup" for a police department to add a seasoned veteran at an entry level position.

"He is a great fit for us. He has received glowing reviews. He is expected to be embedded in the community and a real asset to us," Custer said.

Carpenter, who was born and raised in Manchester, "really enjoys being out in the community." This past weekend, Carpenter and his family drove around town to learn the community better, Custer said.

"I am really excited," Carpenter said.

The Rocky Hill Police Department is expected to add more officers to the force in the near future, Custer said.
