Manchester Man Pleads Guilty to Prescription Fraud and Identity Theft Charges

The repeat offender could face up to 12 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

A 31-year old Manchester man waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated identity theft and one count of acquiring a controlled substance by misrepresentation or fraud in a federal courtroom in Hartford Monday. 

According to David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, , 31, of Manchester, telephoned various pharmacies in the area posing as doctors and physician's assistant's and used stolen identities or registration numbers to fraudulently order prescriptions for hydrocodone mixed with acetaminophen, a controlled substance.

Morin confessed to using the stolen registration numbers or other information from five different health care providers to fraudulently obtain more than 5,000 pills of prescription medications containing controlled substances.

Morin's sentencing is scheduled for June 11, 2012. He faces a maximum prison term of 12 years and a fine of up to $500,000.

Morin was sentenced to 12 months of imprisonment in December of 2010, followed by one year of supervised release, for falsely obtaining more than 6,000 pills of controlled substances in a similar scheme.  He was released from prison and began serving his term of supervised release on May 2, 2011, the same date the current complaint against him alleges he began his latest prescription drug fraud scheme.

Morin has been detained since his arrest on October 24, 2011.
