Manchester Woman Among Three Facing Charges in Beating, Robbery of Disabled Vernon Man

Vernon police charged the final suspect on Thursday.

Detectives from the Vernon Police Department have now made three arrests in relation to the robbery and beating of a 55-year-old disabled man last month, according to a news release issued late Thursday.

According to a news release, on Feb. 26 at 7:32 p.m., a 55-year-old Vernon man went to the emergency department at Rockville General Hospital to seek aid after being confronted, beaten and robbed of his money.

The victim required medical treatment for "numerous" injuries, including contusions to his eyes and face, a fractured nose and a laceration to his hand, police said.

Vernon detectives investigated the incident and learned that Ashley Secore, 18, whose last known address was 14 Hawthorne St., Manchester, had recently befriended him and knew that the man had money on him, according to a news release.

Police said Secore and another accomplice, identified as Shataneka Brown, 19, of 39-B Village St. in the Rockville section of Vernon, coaxed the victim to walk with them to a unit at the Sleeping Giant Apartments, located at 1238 Hartford Tpke.

Secore and Brown told the victim that they were going to take a short cut and walk down Green Road, police said.

An investigation revealed that Secore, Brown and a third accomplice, Darnell Stellmacher, 32, of 205 Sigourney St., Apt C3, Hartford, "conspired and planned to rob the victim," police said.

Once at the end of Green Road, Secore, Brown and Stellmacher attacked the victim and stole his money, leaving him bloodied on the ground, police said. The three suspects fled and the victim managed to get himself to the hospital, police said.

Vernon Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Secore, Brown and Stellmacher.  On March 16, Brown was arrested by warrant. On March 18, Secore was arrested by warrant.

On Thursday at about 5 p.m., the final arrest was made when Stellmacher was taken into custody by warrant after he was located by West Hartford Police at a disturbance call in that town.

Brown is being held by the state corrections department in lieu of a $75,000 bond, police said.

Police said Secore is free on bond.

Stellmacher is being held in lieu of a $45,000 cash court-set bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Rockville Superior Court on Friday.

Police said Secore, Brown and Stellmacher each face the following charges:

• Robbery, second degree.

• Third-degree assault of a disabled person.

• Second-degree larceny.

• Conspiracy to commit Robbery, second degree.

• Conspiracy to commit second-degree assault of a disabled person.
