UPDATE: Manchester High Briefly Locked Down as Police Search for Gun

Police confirmed they had a suspect in custody Thursday morning.

Manchester High School was briefly locked down this morning as police searched for a suspect with a gun in the vicinity of Summit Street.

Manchester Police Capt. Christopher Davis said that police received reports of a man on Summit Street hanging out the window of his car with what appeared to be a gun, and alerted the nearby high school at adjacent 134 East Middle Turnpike that they were looking for a possible armed suspect in the area.

Davis said the man, identified as Louis Mayo, was taken into custody shortly afterwards and that the gun found on him was not real. Davis said he did not know what the man would be charged with yet.

Manchester High School Interim Principal Gregory Ziogas said he chose to implement a "soft lock down" at about 9:05 a.m. Thursday morning after police contacted him.

"Just wanted to make sure that none of our kids went outside the building if this guy did have a gun," he said.

Ziogas said the lock down lasted about 30 minutes and that "the kids were excellent" during it. He said he did not contact parents to notify them about the lock down.
