A man died after a car crashed into the Globe Hollow Reservoir in Manchester at around 5 a.m. Sunday, according to Manchester police.
Police confirmed that the car went into the lake along South Main Street near the Lutz Children's Museum. The car was traveling south on South Main Street when it veered off the road in front of the museum, went through a chain link fence and drove into the reservoir, according to police.
Police said that one male aoccupant died as a result of the accident and that the other male occupant is currently at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Police received the call around 5 a.m. and the Manchester Fire, Rescue and EMS Department and the Tolland County Dive Team both responded. The survivor managed to escape from the car and swim to shore. Police found the victim in the car when they removed it from the lake later.
The Manchester Police Traffic Unit and Metro Traffic Reconstruction Team are investigating the accident. The case is still under investigation and police have not released the names of those involved.
