Man Charged With Assaulting Police Officers at KFC

A man struggled and fought with a pair of police officers in the parking lot of KFC on West Middle Turnpike Sunday.

A 20-year old man is facing a litany of charges, including violation of a protective order and two counts of assaulting a police officer, after he followed his estranged wife to the KFC on West Middle Turnpike Sunday afternoon, caused a disturbance and then fought with police officers once they arrived.

According to Manchester Police, officers were dispatched to the KFC at 307 West Middle Turnpike, where they found 20-year old Alberto Torres sitting in the parking lot. Police said they received a complaint that a man matching Torres description had caused a violent disturbance inside the restaurant, including punching a cash register, flipping over chairs and breaking a door off its hinges. Police said Torres admitted he was the one responsible for the incident when they approached him.

Police said Torres refused to comply with commands to turn around and put his hands behind his back so he could be cuffed, saying instead that "I'm good. I will go on my own," and tried to run from the officers when they grabbed him to be cuffed. Two officers then tackled Torres to the ground and violently struggled with him until they were able to subdue him and get his hands cuffed.

Police said Torres followed his wife, who has a protective order against Torres, from her Manchester home to the KFC where she works by bus because they were arguing about a man Torres thought his wife was involved with, and that he became angry when she refused to give him the man's phone number.
