Local Gun Shop Owner: 'We Don't Sell That Stuff'

The shop on Talcottville Road has a specialty market - nothing like that used in the Newtown shootings.

Al Pastula, the owner of Steve's Guns on Talcottville Road in Vernon, was quite clear on one thing.

"We do not sell that stuff."

Pastula was referring to assault weapons like the one used in the Newtown school shootings on Friday. He owns a small shop that specializes in repair, service and hard to find and collectible firearms.

His outlook is vastly different from, say, a larger dealer like Dick's Sporting Goods, which is suspending the sale of certain guns, according to a CNN report

He said he is trying to maintain a business-as-usual approach but at the same time he maintains that the incident "wrecked a lot of people's lives."

"I am not sure that type of person would even get a gun permit, so he has to obtain the gun illegally," Pastula said. "You can't fix crazy and this is crazy. If a crazy person wants to do it, he's going to do it."

So he sees no new laws or restrictions affecting what is in his shop - even down the road. But even though he has a focused clientele, he still says it is important to follow the letter of the law.

"Our state has some of the most strict regulations when it comes to the permit process," he said. "So I make sure I follow it."
