How Sportsman's Cafe Caught Fire Last December: Police Say He Set It

A fire that heavily damaged Sportsman's Cafe last December was started by a 20-year-old man angry that he couldn't find cigarette butts when he scrounged in a trash barrel in the back, the Hartford Courant reported, citing police reports.

The man, Aaron Blow, "of no certain address," the Courant reported, was with a 16-year-old girl at the time who told police that Blow lit up some trash in the barrel when he couldn't find any cigarette buts to light up. An apartment above the bar at 208 Spruce St. was also heavily damaged by the fire, although the residents were able to escape.

Police received a tip on Jan. 6, which led them to the girl, according to the Courant, which reported on information from an arrest warrant. Blow was arrested last week after an investigation.
