Glastonbury Woman Nabbed With 'Party Bag' of Drugs, Kids in Back Seat

She told police after her arrest that she sells herself to cover her drug habit.

A 31-year old Glastonbury woman is in hot water after police stopped the car she was riding in Saturday and found her to be carrying a "party bag" of drugs while her two children were in the back seat, neither of whom were wearing seat belts.

According to Manchester Police, the car that Rashetta Nicole Tyrell, 31, of 11 Mill St., Glastonbury, was a passenger in was stopped near Manchester High School Saturday evening due to a cancelled license plate.

Police detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, which was driven by Marcus Wayne Hines, and searched the vehicle and its passengers. Tyrell's two young children were also in the back seat but not in restraints, which is a violation of the law.

During the search, according to Manchester Police Capt. Christopher Davis, police said that Tyrell seemed "nervous" and it appeared as though she was trying to leave the scene. Police also noticed that Tyrell had a brown paper bag that she kept trying to conceal.

When police searched the bag, they found marijuana and two packages of crack cocaine. During her booking process at the Manchester Police Station, Tyrell told police that she was not employed but that she preforms sexual services for money to cover her drug habits.

"It ain't free," she told police, referring to a female portion of her anatomy.

Tyrell told police that the drugs were her "party bag" and that she was not a drug dealer.

Tyrell was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, possession of narcotics, sale of narcotics, two charges of transporting a child without a restraint, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school and the sale of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school. She was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on the charges on May 2, 2013.

Hines was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of a school, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration. He was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on the charges on May 2, 2013.

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that Tyrell told police that she wanted to leave the scene and her children behind.
