East Windsor Gun Shop Subject of Federal Investigation

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were at Riverview Sales Thursday evening as part of an ongoing investigation. On Saturday, a South Windsor man was arrested and charged with stealing weapons from the store.

Riverview Sales in East Windsor, a gun store that has been at the center of several recent, highly controversial incidents over the past few years, is under investigation by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

ATF Agent Debora Seifert confirmed that the store located at 4 Prospect Hill in East Windsor is subject to "an ongoing investigation" and was the target of a federal "enforcement activity" late Thursday afternoon.

Seifert said that she could not “speak to any of the particulars” of the investigation

On Thursday, East Windsor police confirmed that the store had sold a gun to Nancy Lanza, whose son, Adam Lanza, killed 27 people, including his mother, in Newtown on Dec. 14. Adam Lanza killed himself after killing 20 first-grade students and six school officials at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

In a statement reported by the Associated Press, Riverview Sales owner David LaGuerica said that he was “appalled” that Nancy Lanza purchased a gun that may have been used in the tragedy.

“There is nothing more devastating than the loss of a child,” LaGuercia told the AP. “We are absolutely appalled that the product that we sold several years ago would be used in this type of horrendous crime. Our hearts go out to the victims and the families.”

“We are cooperating with law enforcement and their efforts to get to the bottom of this senseless tragedy,” LaGuercia said, according to the AP.

The gun shop has had a history of issues, particularly with being unable to track its inventory.

On Saturday, a South Windsor man was arrested after he attempted to steal a long rifle from Riverview Sales.

Jordan Marsh, 26, was charged with third-degree larceny, first-degree robbery, theft of a firearm and carrying of dangerous weapons. He was arraigned in Enfield on Monday and held on $2 million bail.

Further investigation revealed that Marsh had an AR-15 assault rifle stashed at a Hartford hotel where he had been staying.

According to East Windsor Det. Matthew Carl, the AR-15 had been stolen from Riverview Sales, whose employees were unaware that the weapon was missing.

It was not the first time that Marsh had taken guns from Riverview Sales.

Marsh, who, according to relatives, is mentally ill, had previously received a two-year suspended sentence after it was discovered in June 2011 that he had stolen 12 firearms from Riverview Sales.

Store employees were not aware that Marsh had taken 12 guns from the store in the first incident until they were alerted in June 2011.

Marsh isn’t the only person who has stolen a large number of guns from Riverview Sales, according to police.

In 2007, Riverview Sales owner David E. LaGuercia notified the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives that 33 guns were missing from his store, according to a Hartford Courant story. Of those 33 guns, 28 were recovered when police searched the home of Brian H. McClelland, who was a frequent customer of the store and helped out on occasion, the Courant reported.

I find it hard to believe and very suspicious that the gun store doesn't "notice" when guns are stolen from the store.. I hope the ATF investigates everyone there thoroughly, and shuts them down
Jon Crickmore December 22, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Yes shut all the gun stores down hahahahaha. Get a grip Steve. Alcohol kills many more people than guns. So we need to shut down all package stores. Oh and don't forget how many people die in car crashes lets ban cars. I have a truck with a high capacity gas tank should i turn it in ?? Scum bags will kill with any means. Had this punk not had access to guns he would have used other means to carry out his terror. Stop blaming objects.

Alchohol=assault weapons argument.Hummm, who been drinking now?
Jon Crickmore December 22, 2012 at 09:29 PM
Another liberal who hates facts so in the face of truth lets make stupid comments. Alcohol kills many more people a year then any so called assault rifle. By the way the term "ASSAULT RIFLE" is a spin off term from guns used by the military and are fully automatic. If you look closely at the term "ASSAULT RIFLE" state by state the definition is so broad it includes certain hand guns, rifles, and shot guns. I'm sure this information means nothing to you but it may serve useful to open minded individuals who believe in the constitution of the United States of America.

Jon don't worry too much about James. Even if the assault rifle ban is put back as it was from 94-04, it changes nothing for anyone. Hell there were more murders by firearm in the last year of the assault rifle ban than there were 5 years after it expired. Let James and all his right wing buddies make whatever reactionary decisions they feel necessary to make themselves feel better about this. As I've been saying, we have a gun problem now??? Did we have one a month ago??? Cause we certainly didn't seem too concerned about it then. At the very least, do some research about guns/types/definitions/mechanics. Just because Fox news tells you they are bad..... Well never mind.

I never pay much attention to individuals who post with fictitious names. I take pride in speaking my mind and not hiding behind the keyboard. After all this is America and for the moment we still have free speech. My opinions are no more or less important than the next persons. I also don't justify my opinion by making up things i know nothing about. I also don't try to re write the words of others to justify and manipulate others. In case you misunderstood my previous post it's still available for viewing. I stated the comment was stupid not the person who wrote it. I know I know making gun owners out to be malicious mean angry people only puts justification in your mind. Mr Bond you are free to own guns or not own guns. I also have the same freedoms. PS did you know that over a thousand people died in the 007 Movies ? Do you know that 007 used sub machine guns, hand guns, rifles, shotguns and guns and guns and guns and guns and guns. I would think that someone who is soooo against guns would have chosen a more suitable fictitious person to name themselves after. Hmmmmm how do you explain yourself. How can you be pro violence yet anti gun. How can you post all over patch as a man that promotes violence in movies and video games. It is movies and video games that are responsible for acts of violence right ??? I tried my best to quell my anger while i wrote this lol. American Mr Bond not angry. I'm patiently waiting your reply.

Remember shaken not stirred, hope that isn't too liberal for ya.

John you didn't hear the news?? Guns dont kill people Only assault weapons kill people If we ban the assault weapons, we will never ever have another mass shooting again. See, it doesnt make any sense to me either.
Jon Crickmore December 23, 2012 at 10:20 AM
What other people think about my posts does not concern me. I'm not a sheep.I don't say what people want to hear i say what people need to hear. Mr Obama i mean Bond can you please answer the questions.
Loretta T December 25, 2012 at 11:39 AM
Just to put my 2 cents in here, I don't see why ANYONE would need to have an assault rifle or semi-automatic weapon in their home for protection. Guns will always be out there whether illegally or legally however if we limit access to these types of weapons it could save a life.
