Cyclist Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident Involving Manchester Man Still Critical

A Portland man who was injured in an early morning hit-and-run accident in East Hampton over the weekend remained in critical condition Wednesday at Hartford Hospital, hospital officials said.

William Sigman, 24, of 32 Rustic Terrace, was struck from behind by a car while riding his bicycle around 3:28 a.m. on Saturday on Main Street near Edgerton Street.

The vehicle that struck Sigman immediately fled the scene, police said. Officers, however, were able to identify the suspect vehicle as a Mazda 3 and later Saturday an off-duty East Hartford officer located the car parked in a lot next to an industrial building on Watrous Street in East Hampton, police said in a press release.

The vehicle was seized as evidence and led police to John Sialis-Giagios, 23, of 179 E. Center St., Apt. 4A, in Manchester. Sialis-Giagios was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run and later admitted to East Hampton police his involvement in the crash, police said.

He was charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and evading responsibility. He was released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Middletown Superior Court on Feb. 28.
