Car Crashes Through Main Street Business

Witnesses said an elderly woman drove her car through the front window of Aerus Electrolux Corp. at 629 Main St. Monday morning.

Merchants and shoppers in the downtown area were startled earlier this morning when a car crashed through a business on Main Street. Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident.

According to witnesses at the scene, an elderly woman crashed her car through the front window of , an independent vacuum cleaner and home heater store located at 629 Main St., when she stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake. Witnesses said the incident happened at approximately 11 a.m. Monday morning.

Paul Quagliaroli, the business' owner, was in the store at the time and said that the car came about 10 feet from hitting him. Quagliaroli said he was stunned, but was still attending to customers in his damaged storefront at about 1 p.m. Monday. He said he intended to reopen the business as soon as possible.

A witness to the accident who declined to give her name told Patch that the crash “sounded like a bomb going off."

Aerus Electrolux is located next to and above several offices, but no other businesses were damaged in the accident and all remained opened Monday afternoon. Shamash Hertzel owns the building.
