Arraignment of Manchester Man Facing DUI, Motor Vehicle Assault Charges Postponed

Ronald Maillet, a 62-year-old Grissom Road resident, was due to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Thursday on charges of assault and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after an accident involving a wheelchair-bound pedestrian Feb. 17, but the case was continued until April because Maillet’s attorney was not present.

Maillet was charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive on the right side of the road after an accident in which he hit a wheelchair-bound pedestrian along Tolland Turnpike on Feb. 17. The accident occurred at 838 Tolland Tpke. sometime that evening, and published reports in the Hartford Courant and the Journal-Inquirer stated that the wheelchair-bound pedestrian was "seriously injured" in the collision and had been taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford. It was difficult to determine the extent of the pedestrian’s injuries and his fate, because of medical confidentiality laws.

Maillet posted a $10,000 bond through AAA Bail Bonds that evening, and was released on a promise to return to court on March 3 for his arraignment. A note attached to his file at the Manchester Superior Court at 410 Center. St. Thursday stated that Maillet’s attorney was absent because he was attending a funeral.

Maillet’s arraignment has been continued to April 7.
