Obituary: Doris Moore (Duncan) Dennen, 96, of Manchester

The cardinals sang and the white birches bowed low; May 19, 2014, to honor the passing of Doris Moore (Duncan) Dennen, 96.

Doris was born July 30, 1917, in New Brunswick, Canada. She grew up on a dairy farm in Skowhegan, Maine. When she was 20, she and her cousin ventured off by bus to Connecticut, where she took a job as a nanny.

Here she fell in love and married William (Bill) Dennen (1913-1985), settling forever after in Manchester. In addition to raising five children, Doris, known as "Mickey" to close friends, worked as a nurse’s aide at Mansfield Training Center and later at Bidwell Manor. She and Bill spent some time living in Florida and Rhode Island after retirement.

Doris was also predeceased by her second husband, Frank Duncan, whom she married in 1999. She is survived by her brother Harold Moore of Texas, five children, Bob Dennen and wife Paula, Bill Dennen and wife Marlene, Barbara Amodio and husband Frank, Debra Jean and husband Wayne, Nancy Thibeault and husband Don, and step-son Bill Duncan and wife Bev as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she loved with all her heart.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday May 22, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Friday May 23 at 11:30 a.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center Street, Manchester, followed by a Christian burial at St. James Cemetery in Manchester.
