Susan Is In It for Susan

The TV Ads are what Susan Bysiewicz would lead you to believe she is really like. Let's have a look at the real Susan.

I have never in my adult life written anything negative about a Democrat. As a Democratic Town Chairman it is my job to get Democrats elected. I embrace what my candidates believe in, stand for and run on. I whole heartedly support my candidates because each is a decent person that puts him or herself out there to serve our community for honorable reasons, a selfless act to try and make things better for all of us. When a candidate comes forward that is not a decent person, that is just in it for herself, and all that is important to her is winning the coveted prize of being elected to the important position of United States Senator, it makes me sick. I couldn't suport her even if she won the primary. Through her television ads she claims credit for things that she had little or nothing to do with, and she doesn’t really care about making things better in her community, state or nation.  She points to her opponent as someone that is a political insider, when she herself is the insider. Susan is all about deception.

Susan has tried to make the public believe that she is something that she is not, that she genuinely cares about women’s issues, and that she will fight for all of us. The only thing that Susan will ever fight for is Susan. She hasn’t been in the legislature for over a decade and the issues that she is advertising on television are issues that as Secretary of the State she had no influence over. What she claims to have accomplished are laws that were passed unanimously or nearly unanimously by the legislature.

Let’s recall just two short years ago, Chris Dodd announced that he would not run again and simultaneously Attorney General Dick Blumenthal announced that he would run for Dodd’s seat. Secretary of the State Bysiewicz (she was the frontrunner for Governor) dropped out of the Governor’s race and announced for Attorney General. Why would she drop out of the Governor’s race when she was the front runner? The reason is clear, she wanted to run for the United States Senate in 2012. Why not just tell the truth.

When the race in 2010 changed she could have easily said she was interested in exploring the possibility of running for the U.S. Senate in 2012 and asked the people to support her for another term in the office she had been serving in for twelve years. Who would have argued with her. But instead, she did what Susan does and tried to use OUR office, the office of the Connecticut Attorney General to springboard to the United States Senate. She would have raised her right hand and taken the oath of office for Attorney General in 2011 and the same day started seeking support for United States Senate. Is that a sign of a politician that is in it for the people? She ran into a problem when the Courts ruled that she was not even eligible to serve as Attorney General. Do you remember the news clips, I was embarrassed for her on the witness stand, and obviously it didn’t even phase her. Her actions say a great deal about character and fitness for office.

When she came before the Manchester Democratic Town Committee in 2010, I asked a simple question, “If we support you for Attorney General will you finish your term?” She started tap dancing and did not answer the question. I then followed up with, “If you are elected Attorney General will you tell us now that you will not be a candidate for the United States Senate in 2012?” Again, she did not answer. It is pure and simple: Susan is in it for Susan period.

As Secretary of the State, she had more of her personal staff leave service with her office than any other Constitutional Officer. I know many of these people and they are good and decent people, that are serving the people of our state in an office where they are appreciated for their public service. When Dick Blumenthal ran for the United States Senate his staff wholeheartedly supported him. Susan is running for the United States Senate and almost all of her former staff members are supporting the person that she is challenging. Again, that speaks volumes about her leadership.

As the beacon of democracy, the United States and individual states should assist fledgling democracies having their first elections if asked to do so. Instead of allowing the Director of the Elections Division to go help as an observer, Susan made him take personal time in order to help. Is this the kind of example we want to set for the world? I don’t think so. Is this the kind of judgment we should want in Connecticut’s United States Senator? Definitely not. As Secretary of the State she paraded around Connecticut giving citations to veterans of WWII, I know because she gave one to my father. Do these brave men and women deserve citations, absolutely! But what were her motives, I know her, it was Susan trying to endear our WWII veterans to her so that they would vote for her, it is that simple.

She claims that the party endorsement means nothing. The Democratic State Convention is made up entirely of people from our communities. Our neighbors and our local elected officials are not meaningless, they are who we are and they mean everything. Susan was able to bamboozle 24 percent of the convention into believing that she really has something to offer. She has nothing that we want or need.

If she were to win the Democratic nomination for United States Senator I would have a very big problem. I would not be able to do my job because I would never be able to support someone that has a record of exploiting her office for her own personal gain. It is simple, her record is that she takes care of Susan. She uses people to advance her number one cause, Susan.

I believe in the Democrats of Connecticut, I believe that you will see right through that fake smile and her ulterior motives.
